The UK expands military support for Saudi Arabia against Houthis to include ‘defensive’ air patrols
The reported deployment adds fighter-jet missions, an Atlas A400M and advisers as Houthi attacks intensify, expanding Britain’s support beyond September’s aid.
On Tuesday, Britain announced it will deploy Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets to protect Saudi Arabia against escalating attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi group, Bloomberg reported.
Houthi violence has intensified in recent weeks, including a strike on a government security forces training camp in Shabwa, Yemen, on Monday that killed 58 people.
More than 200 people were wounded in Monday's attack, which follows Britain's September commitment to provide an RAF Voyager air-to-air refueling aircraft that did not include fighter jets.
Britain will also provide an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers, though the Ministry of Defence did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the reported deployment.
Defensive missions will protect Saudi Arabia's cities and critical infrastructure from aerial attacks, addressing security threats to energy supplies and international trade amid escalating regional conflict.
