UK police charge second man over arson at former synagogue
Police say the fire was started intentionally, and a second suspect has been charged as investigators probe possible links to wider attacks.
On Thursday, Counter Terrorism Policing London charged 31-year-old Dominique Charles-Turner with arson with intent to endanger life at a former Tower Hamlets synagogue; he appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today.
Emergency services responded to a fire at the former East London Central Synagogue on Nelson Street on May 5, which CCTV footage revealed was started intentionally at 05:10 with minor gate damage.
Police previously arrested Moses Edwards, 45, and a 52-year-old woman on May 10 in connection with the arson; Edwards was charged with arson with intent to endanger life and is due at the Old Bailey on June 5.
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of CTP London, stated the investigation team is "working at pace to arrest all those suspected," with authorities maintaining a severe threat level across London.
Charles-Turner is the tenth person charged in a wave of attacks beginning with March 23 ambulance arsons; officials have arrested 33 people total, reflecting escalating threats targeting community venues across London.
