DAVENPORT, FLORIDA, AUG 4 – Mark Gibbon, 62, faces charges after allegedly trying to drown his daughter-in-law during a family dispute at a vacation rental pool, deputies said.
- Polk County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, that Mark Raymond Gibbon, a British tourist from Beaconsfield, England, was arrested in Davenport for allegedly attempting to drown his daughter-in-law.
- On Sunday evening, August 3, witnesses said Gibbon and his 33-year-old daughter-in-law argued over her children at Solterra Resort in Davenport.
- During the confrontation, neighbors stopped the assault after Gibbon was told they'd called the sheriff's office, authorities said.
- Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said, 'Because Mr. Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated,' after booking him into Polk County Jail on attempted second-degree murder and two counts of Battery.
- In comments on tourist conduct, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd cautioned `Because Mr. Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated`.
