UK crisp company stocked in Tesco closes after 54 years as it enters administration
Administrators said nearly all 95 employees were made redundant as they seek buyers for the 54-year-old crisp maker’s assets.
On September 21, Glens of Antrim Potatoes Ltd collapsed into administration, forcing the Northern Ireland company to cease trading immediately. The closure affects 95 staff members, nearly all made redundant.
Rising costs across the agri-food sector created significant cash flow challenges for Glens of Antrim. After 54 years of operations, directors failed to secure necessary refinancing or new investment, leaving no viable path forward.
Administrator Stuart Irwin of Interpath called the closure "a tremendously sad outcome for the business," citing the impact on the Northern Ireland agri-food sector and wider community. The firm is supporting affected employees.
Administrators are now seeking potential buyers for the business and its remaining assets, inviting interested parties to contact them immediately regarding acquisition. This positions the search as an active next step.
This closure follows a difficult year for the UK retail sector, with numerous companies entering administration throughout 2026. High street brands including Quiz and Claire's have shuttered all remaining stores, reflecting widespread market instability.
