Uganda suspends military cooperation with Turkey amid political tensions
Uganda's army said Saturday it had suspended military cooperation with Turkey, after demands for Ankara to hand over a prominent political blogger and fierce critic of President Yoweri Museveni.
The Ugandan army announced it has suspended all defense and military cooperation with Ankara following a dispute and escalating tensions over the extradition of opposition political blogger Fred Lumbuye.
Announced on Saturday, September 19, the measure comes after Ankara's refusal to extradite a Ugandan blogger exiled to Turkish territory for at least five years. Very critical of President Museveni's regime, Fred Lumbuye, who has 150,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, is targeted by 15 charges in his country.
This decision follows the request of the army leader, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, that Ankara extradite an influential blogger, critical of President Yoweri Museveni.
