Dana White Asks Trump to Fix Tax Law that Looms over Gamblers
White says the 90% deduction can leave bettors owing taxes on break-even years and urges Trump to back a fix.
On Monday, May 11, UFC President Dana White sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting reversal of the 90% gambling loss deduction cap established by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Signed in July 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act lowered gambling loss deductions to 90%, prompting alarms from the legal betting community about harmful effects on high-stakes bettors.
Under current law, a bettor winning $100,000 while losing $100,000 can only deduct $90,000, forcing them to pay taxes on $10,000 of income despite netting zero money.
American Gaming Association senior vice president of government relations Chris Cylke said restoring the 100 percent deduction "remains a top priority," while thanking White for raising awareness.
U.S. Rep. Dina Titus introduced the Fair Accounting for Income Realized from Betting Earnings Taxation Act shortly after OBBBA passed, but the legislation has not yet progressed through Congress for a vote.
