UE basketball player killed in overnight crash

Police say speed played a role in the crash that killed the University of Evansville sophomore, who died at the scene.

  • University of Evansville sophomore Jordan Scott died in a car crash late Sunday, September 6, in Warrick County when her vehicle struck a utility pole on State Road 62 near Franz Road.
  • Scott, a 2025 Castle High School graduate, transferred to the Purple Aces this year after playing one season at Wabash Valley College, joining the team to play alongside her sister, Jayden Scott.
  • Warrick County Sheriff's Office officials reported the collision occurred around 12:42 a.m. EST, where a witness observed the vehicle leave the road on a sharp curve, with police citing speed as a contributing factor.
  • University of Evansville Vice President for Athletics Ziggy Siegfried said, "We are heartbroken by Jordan's passing," while Castle High School administration honored her as a "cherished member of our Class of 2025."
  • The University of Evansville is providing counseling resources for students and staff affected by the loss, as Head Coach Ben Wierzba noted the team is "struggling" but remains committed to supporting one another.
