UConn, UCLA, Texas, South Carolina Lead Women's NCAA Field

UConn earned the top overall seed with a 31-0 record while UCLA, Texas, and South Carolina also secured No. 1 seeds in a competitive tournament field.

  • On Sunday, the NCAA finalized the 2026 Women's Tournament bracket, awarding the undefeated UConn Huskies the top overall seed. The team enters with a 34-0 record, seeking its 13th national championship under head coach Geno Auriemma.
  • Despite UCLA's 19 Quad 1 wins versus UConn's nine, committee chair Amanda Braun said the vote favored the Huskies' undefeated record. "The vote ultimately gave the edge to UConn," Braun said on ESPN.
  • Public backing remains strong for the Huskies, with 46% of ESPN Tournament Challenge brackets selecting UConn to win the championship. Combined with UCLA and South Carolina, the three teams account for 57.4% of the future handle at BetMGM.
  • Joining UConn as No. 1 seeds are UCLA, Texas, and South Carolina, completing the top four teams in the bracket. The tournament opens with First Four matchups on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • The Final Four will be held in Phoenix on April 3, with the championship game two days later. Auriemma said success requires beating the best teams throughout the next three weeks of play.
