U2 Surprise Fans Again with Easter Lily EP
The six-track digital release reflects on friendship, loss and renewal, and includes a tribute to Hal Willner plus a Brian Eno-produced closing track.
- On Good Friday, April 3, 2026, Irish rock band U2 released Easter Lily, their second six-song EP of 2026. The collection follows the politically charged Days of Ash EP released in February.
- The band, currently recording their 15th studio album, describes these EPs as 'separate, self-contained' collections. These interim releases tide fans over while sessions for the full-length record continue.
- Collaborator Brian Eno provided soundscapes for the EP, which explores themes of friendship, loss, and renewal. The record opens with 'Song for Hal,' a tribute to late music producer Hal Willner.
- Lead singer Bono described the EP as an opportunity for the band to dig "deeper into our lives" for songs. He characterized this period as "wilderness years" for the group.
- Accompanying the digital release is a special edition of Propaganda, the band's fanzine originally launched 40 years ago in 1986. The issue features sleeve notes from guitarist The Edge and a conversation with Franciscan friar Richard Rohr.
