Two Ukrainian men guilty of arson attacks targeting Keir Starmer
Prosecutors said the attacks were carried out for payment and filmed for a Russian-speaking Telegram contact.
On Monday, a jury at London's Old Bailey Court found Ukrainian Roman Lavrynovych and Romanian Stanislav Carpiuc guilty of conspiracy to commit arson targeting properties linked to British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
A shadowy Telegram contact known as 'El Money' orchestrated the attacks, offering Lavrynovych £3,000 in cryptocurrency if the fires were filmed and broadcast on news outlets.
Over five days, defendants targeted a Toyota Rav4 in Kentish Town, a house there, and an Ellington Street property in Islington, with fires posing serious risk to sleeping occupants.
Commander Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London stated the attacks lacked ideological motivation, with defendants acting as criminal proxies solely to 'cause concern' and 'disruption' in the UK.
Justice Garnham remanded both defendants into custody for sentencing on Friday, while fellow Ukrainian Petro Pochynok was acquitted of the same conspiracy charge during the trial.
