Suspicious House Fire Claims Second Life After Man Dies
Police say five crews extinguished the blaze in two hours as investigators treat the fire as deliberately lit.
On Tuesday, a suspicious house fire on Sickle Avenue at Hope Island left one man dead and two others with life-threatening burns requiring immediate hospitalization.
Police believe the fire was purposefully lit and are treating the incident as a domestic violence matter, with a 38-year-old man found dead inside the extensively damaged home.
Two men, aged 44 and 84, suffered life-threatening burns and were rushed to Royal Brisbane, while a 59-year-old woman with injuries was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.
Another 38-year-old man escaped uninjured, while a local resident described those in the house as "shaken up" by the incident; they emerged confused and disoriented.
Police have declared a crime scene and are appealing for public information via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, while support for domestic violence victims is available through the Men's Referral Service at 1300 766 491.
