Two Men Describe Discovering Woman Trapped in Mud by Remote Minnesota Trail for Three Days
Two men rescued Kathryn Woessner after they found her nearly submerged in mud, and officials said she had been missing for three days.
- On Saturday, Adam Sandbeck and Mike Gravalin discovered Kathryn Jane Woessner, 68, alive and trapped in a mud puddle near Backus and Hackensack, Minnesota, after riding an off-road vehicle through the area.
- Woessner, of Alexandria, had been reported missing after last being seen on June 3, remaining trapped for three days after slipping into a 2 feet deep puddle while trying to exit her stuck van.
- Sandbeck told KARE, "The round part of her face, like her mouth, her lips," was visible, while Woessner described the mud as "like quicksand" and whispered "Help me" when rescuers arrived.
- After the two rescuers pulled Woessner from the mud and called 911, emergency responders transported her to Essentia Health Medical Center in Brained for treatment due to her medical conditions.
- Officials from the Douglas County Sheriff Office reported Woessner had no personal belongings when discovered roughly 80 miles west of her Alexandria home, concluding the multi-day search.
