Two lifeguards monitored in hospital after lightning strikes beach

  • Two lifeguards were struck by lightning on Banna Beach in Kerry and were taken to University Hospital Kerry for treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be serious.
  • Flash flooding and torrential rain in Tralee caused evacuation of a supermarket with its roof partially collapsed, as well as flooding in several homes and businesses. Tralee Aquadome and Tralee Cinema were forced to close due to rain damage.
  • High tide in Tralee Bay was expected to peak at 6.30pm and Kerry County Council urged people to take shelter and stay away from beaches and other open spaces due to the current weather conditions.
