Two dead, one hurt in helicopter crash on B.C. central coast
Two people died and one survived after a Hughes 500 helicopter went down during forestry operations, and federal investigators are responding.
- A Hughes 500 helicopter crashed in Loughborough Inlet, British Columbia, on Tuesday morning during forestry operations, killing two people and injuring one, West Coast Helicopters reported.
- Pilot Riley Browne and CFMG crew member Bobby Nowak were identified as the two victims. Browne had worked for West Coast Helicopters since 2021 and was described as a valued team member.
- Emergency Health Services transported the survivor by air ambulance to the Canadian Forces Base at Comox, then to hospital, where the person remains in serious but stable condition.
- The Transportation Safety Board is deploying investigators to the crash site in Loughborough Inlet on Wednesday morning to begin their formal investigation into the incident.
- West Coast Helicopters expressed being "deeply saddened" by the loss on Facebook, noting Browne was well known in the Port McNeill community on Vancouver Island.
