Two Dead in Fiery Crash, Highway Closed
Both drivers died when their vehicles caught fire after a head-on collision on the Newell Highway, causing closures and diversions while investigators prepare a Coroner's report.
- About 1.15am on Friday a car and truck collided and burst into flames on the Newell Highway near Bohena Creek, south of Narrabri, killing the drivers and destroying both vehicles.
- Oxley Police District officers, NSW Ambulance paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene, while Live Traffic NSW supplied coverage of the incident.
- A fire from the collision spread into nearby forest but was extinguished, and police established a crime scene at the site.
- All lanes of the Newell Highway are closed and motorists are being diverted via the Kamilaroi and Oxley highways, with the route between Narrabri and Coonabarabran blocked this morning.
- A formal identification process and coroner's report are pending as investigators prepare a report for the Coroner, and the crash victims remain yet to be formally identified.
