Two arrested on suspicion of murder after boy, 12, dies following Essex vehicle collision
Two people, including a 15-year-old boy, are in custody as detectives seek CCTV and witness accounts to piece together the incident.
On Monday, police confirmed a murder investigation after a 12-year-old boy died following serious injuries sustained on Sunday. A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man from Pilgrims Hatch were arrested on suspicion of murder.
Emergency services responded to Ashwells Road in Brentwood, Essex, at 5:40 PM Sunday, where officers discovered the boy with "serious injuries." Despite immediate medical treatment at a hospital, the schoolboy sadly died.
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe of the Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate urged residents to review CCTV from 8 AM to 7 PM Sunday. "We're working hard to build a full picture," DCI Metcalfe said.
Brentwood district commander Inspector Terry Fisher acknowledged the significant community impact and requested privacy for the grieving family. "The loss of a child is every parent's nightmare," Fisher added.
Ashwells Road remains cordoned off as the investigation continues into the boy's death. Police confirmed this was an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the community, though the road will stay closed in the immediate term.
