Twin attacks by militants kill 3 police officers, wound 20 in restive northwest Pakistan
Officials said militants killed 3 police officers and wounded 20 more in separate attacks that police linked to suspected Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan militants.
On Wednesday, twin attacks in northwest Pakistan killed three police officers and wounded 20, marking escalating violence in the region bordering Afghanistan.
Militants first ambushed a security convoy in the Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing three police officers, local police official Ibrahim Khan said; hours later, a suicide bomber struck a police station in Bannu.
The Upper Dir ambush killed three officers and wounded 15, while the Bannu suicide bombing wounded at least five officers and damaged the police station.
While no group claimed responsibility, suspicion for the twin attacks falls on the Pakistani Taliban, or Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan , which remains closely allied with Afghanistan's Taliban.
Pakistan has accused the TTP of operating from sanctuaries inside Afghanistan, a charge both the militant group and the Taliban-led government in Kabul deny.
Three policemen were killed and 20 others were injured in an ambush by gunmen of a security convoy and a suicide attack on a police station in north-western Pakistan on Wednesday. Security sources reported that the first attack took place in the Dir al-Hali district of Khyber Bakhtunkhwa province, where armed men ambushed a security convoy, killing three policemen and injuring 15 others.
