Poland's eastern border, according to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, "is safer than ever." The prime minister also said in Krakow on Thursday that the country is working to increase its air defense capabilities, the Polish news agency PAP reported.
Tusk has assured that Poland is "safer than ever" thanks to the Eastern Shield, the ambitious defence project that Warsaw has launched since May 2024 and is expected to end in 2028. However, the Prime Minister maintains that "it will never be completed", as it will be in constant modernization.
The Polish Prime Minister today assured that the eastern border of Poland, which separates the country from Russia and Belarus, is "more secure than ever", but reaffirmed the adoption of a new plan to respond to possible threats.
The Eastern Shield program, which aims to increase the country's security by expanding fortifications on Poland's borders with Russia and Belarus, plays a key role here, Tusk said. It includes anti-tank barriers and concrete barriers, as well as surveillance and anti-drone systems. The European Union (EU) is contributing to the project through its SAFE defense program.
