The two trials brought against the mayor of Istanbul for more than a year, opposing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, are based on statements by some of his co-accused "repentis" . But many of them have recently returned to their testimonies, which they claim to have been forced to testify, under pressure from prosecutors. However, many of these volte-faces are not taken into account by the courts.
On the 40th day of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) trials, a delegation from the European Green Party observed the proceedings. Speaking on Cumhuriyet TV from Silivri, Vula Tsetsi, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, stated, "This is not a normal trial; it's a political trial. The reason is that Ekrem İmamoğlu has emerged as a strong figure against Recep Tayyip Erdoğan."
