Turkish general reassigned after fighter jet flyover during football match draws criticism - Turkish Minute
A Turkish Air Force general has been reassigned following a controversial incident last week in which F-16 fighter jets and helicopters flew low over a stadium during a football match in central Konya province, sparking criticism over the use of military assets and raising questions about conduct within the armed forces, the Sözcü daily reported.
Major General Mete Kuş, Commander of the 3rd Main Jet Base and Garrison in Konya, has been relieved of his duties. Kuş has been reassigned to the Air Force Command, and Brigadier General Esat Çetin, Commander of the 6th Main Jet Base in Bandırma, has been appointed in his place.
During the Konyaspor-Fenerbahçe match played on April 21st, F-16 and Sikorsky helicopters flew directly over the stadium, and the noise caused by the aircraft was clearly audible on live broadcast. The Konya 3rd Main Jet Base and Garrison Commander, known for his close support of Konyaspor, was also present.
