Tsitsipas Considered Quitting Tennis During Injury-Hit 2025
- On Thursday, Stefanos Tsitsipas said he seriously considered retiring amid severe back pain through much of the 2025 season while preparing for the 2026 United Cup in Perth, Australia.
- Battling a persistent back problem, Tsitsipas said the injury haunted him for the last six or eight months and after his U.S. Open loss to Daniel Altmaier he could not walk for two days.
- He completed five weeks of off-season training without pain, which he described as his biggest win for 2026, and after medical consultations he said he was satisfied with his current care plan as he returned from limited play and ranked 36th.
- For the United Cup, Tsitsipas says he wants to deliver for 2026 and the Greece United Cup team, joined by Maria Sakkari and grouped with Naomi Osaka's Japan and the Emma Raducanu-led Britain.
- With treatment and training, Tsitsipas says full belief in return and a pain-free pre-season give hope to regain form after falling to 36th in the rankings.
