Trump's Greenland envoy Landry arrives in Nuuk
Landry is set to attend the Future Greenland conference as Washington and local leaders continue talks over U.S. interests in the Arctic territory.
On Sunday, U.S. special envoy Jeff Landry arrived in Nuuk, Greenland, to advance President Donald Trump's goal of securing American control over the Arctic territory.
Appointed by Trump last year, Landry's mission faces strong opposition from Danish and Greenlandic governments, which maintain that Greenland is not for sale.
Landry and U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Kenneth Howery will attend the 'Future Greenland' business conference on May 19-20, though Business Greenland did not formally invite the envoy.
So far, no official meetings between Landry and Greenlandic politicians have been confirmed, despite footage from public broadcaster DR showing the envoy exiting a plane in Nuuk.
Earlier this year, Greenland, Denmark, and the United States agreed to high-level diplomatic negotiations to resolve tensions, with discussions now including potential increases in U.S. military presence.
