Research shows that in the negotiations with Washington the Federal Council has made a explosive concession: the state government wants to work to ensure that chlorinated chickens from America can be sold in this country.
The Federal Council wants to open the door to US poultry. But even if imports were permitted in the future, chlorine-treated chickens would likely remain out: Swiss retailers show no interest in chicken from the United States.
The Federal Council intends to make concessions to the United States regarding the export of chicken meat to Switzerland, says the NZZ am Sonntag. Currently, U.S. poultry is banned in Switzerland, as the animals are immersed after slaughter in a chlorine bath to disinfect them.
