Trump says US will not resume military strikes on Iran before the Nov. 3 midterm elections
On Thursday, President Donald Trump announced that the United States will not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, explicitly tying military action timing to the domestic political calendar.
The Pentagon had been tasked with developing strike options after reports suggested potential pre-election military operations, but Trump's announcement marks a shift from that earlier messaging regarding combat timing.
Despite the pause, the naval blockade around Iranian ports remains enforced. Trump claimed 22 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz "last night alone," asserting that Iran faces "very bad condition."
Washington maintains "productive discussions" with the Islamic Republic while insisting on nuclear limits. Iran previously offered to reopen the strait and resume talks if the United States lifted the blockade and observed a ceasefire.
The announcement does not rule out military action after the midterm elections, as the United States continues strengthening its regional military presence and maintaining economic pressure policies "for the time being.
