Trump Urges Calls to Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton in Push for Permanent Daylight Saving Time
Trump urged Arkansas residents to pressure Tom Cotton as callers reached the senator’s cellphone and commentators said they tried the number.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump posted Senator Tom Cotton's cellphone number on Truth Social, urging Arkansas residents to pressure the lawmaker into supporting permanent daylight saving time legislation.
Cotton has repeatedly argued that permanent DST creates dangerously dark winter mornings, warning children would head to school before sunrise and commuters would begin days in darkness.
Callers overwhelmed the number Saturday, leaving the mailbox full, while Journalist Aaron Parnas and Progressive political strategist Drew Savicki shared screenshots of their attempts to contact the senator.
When Newsweek called the number provided by Trump, the call went to voicemail with a message saying, "Sorry the mailbox is full." Cotton declined to comment on the criticism.
Americans are set to turn clocks back on November 1, but the House-approved measure remains stalled despite 64 percent of Americans supporting elimination of twice-yearly time changes in a YouGov survey.
