Leavitt on Zacharia’s rapid exit: ‘The job obviously was not for her’
Leavitt said the role demands preparation and loyalty as Trump weighs several possible replacements after Zacharia’s five-day tenure ended.
Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt offered President Donald Trump help selecting a new press secretary on Thursday, less than a week after Katie Zacharia was fired from the five-day role.
Zacharia was fired following her 14-minute debut press conference on October 13, where she awkwardly read from prepared remarks and later admitted she had never passed the bar exam despite positioning herself as a "lawyer" on social media.
Leavitt, who served nearly two years as press secretary, described the position as "one of the hardest jobs in politics" and noted that "sometimes you don't know how someone will perform until they go out there."
Zacharia returned to California, posting on X that "it was an honor to work for" the president, while telling the New York Post she remains proud of her five-day service despite intense criticism.
Trump is evaluating candidates including Anna Kelly and Scott Jennings as the administration focuses on midterm elections less than two weeks away, with no announcement date yet set for the replacement.
