Trump orders are ‘creating delays’ for projects, but U.S. remains appealing: WSP head
Alexandre L'Heureux said reviews have slowed project conversion in the U.S. segment, even as WSP posted double-digit growth in Canada and overseas.
On Thursday, WSP Global Inc chief executive Alexandre Heureux said the Trump administration is "creating delays" on major projects, with reviews of Biden-era infrastructure and clean energy initiatives slowing cash flow.
While the United States segment faces a slower pace of project conversion, Canada and overseas regions enjoyed double-digit organic growth in net revenues for the third quarter. This geographic divergence underscores the uneven impact of administrative reviews.
Heureux noted that few projects funded by landmark legislative packages from the Biden-era were cancelled or significantly delayed. The United States remains the largest global market for pure-play engineering companies, providing substantial profit margins.
Outside of project reviews, WSP completed or announced three company purchases since late Sept, adding nearly 800 staff members to its workforce. The acquisitions reflect the firm's continued expansion despite near-term headwinds.
The TSX-listed company now employs 85,500 staff, up from 9,700 five years ago, positioning it for sustained growth despite administrative headwinds in the United States. Heureux's comments signal confidence that project delays remain temporary.
The President and CEO of WSP Global, Alexandre L的Heureux, said that the Trump administration "creates delays" in the implementation of major projects south of the border, but that the United States remains an attractive market.
