When Venezuelan opposition politician María Corina Machado symbolically presented Donald Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize medal last week, her gesture attracted considerable attention. But the US president is not the first politician in history to be presented with the award. More than 80 years earlier, Norwegian writer Knut Hamsun made a similar, but much more controversial, gesture.
