A U.S. delegation from the Trade Representative's Office (UST) arrived in Chile this Monday to advance bilateral negotiations with which the South American country seeks to exempt some of its exports from the 12.5% tariff imposed by the Donald Trump government at the end of July.
Jeffrey Goettman, the second in command of the USTR of the United States, arrived in Santiago to hold key meetings with the Kast government regarding the tariff of 12.5%. The official is one of the main implementers of Donald Trump’s trade policy. High sources of the exporting guilds detailed that, a few days ago, they sent to Undersecretary Paula Estévez (Subrei) “abundant information about the reasons behind the request to lower tariffs.”
Donald Trump government representatives led by Jeffrey Goettmann hold key meetings in Santiago for two days to review the tax. The bill directly hits national shipments of products such as salmon, wine, fruit and wood manufactures.
USTR Vice President Jeff Goettman will seek to advance the negotiations to exempt Chilean products from the new surcharge applied by the US country.
