Trump berates Cornyn, Rove for not backing Paxton: ‘They are hurting Texas’
Trump urged Cornyn supporters to switch to Paxton as polls show Democrat James Talarico with a narrow lead in the Texas Senate race.
President Donald Trump on Thursday blamed Senator John Cornyn and Karl Rove if Republican Ken Paxton loses his Texas Senate race against Democrat James Talarico.
Paxton's campaign faces challenges amid reports of past corruption scandals, with polls showing him trailing Talarico in a race Republicans have dominated for three decades.
Trump raged on Truth Social that Cornyn and Rove are "doing everything possible to make it hard" for Paxton to win, boasting he won 96% of Texas counties.
Rove argued the race "would be over" if Cornyn had defeated Paxton in the primary, citing allegations from Paxton's 2023 impeachment trial that ended in acquittal by the Texas Senate.
With early voting beginning Oct. 19, the election remains tight as Democrats hope to break three decades of Republican dominance in the Lone Star State.
