Trump says Ukraine should get a new president as he blames Zelenskyy for US diesel prices
- On Friday, President Donald Trump announced a deal to obtain diesel from Russia, reversing years of U.S. pressure on Moscow over its war in Ukraine and attempting to lower fuel prices before midterm elections.
- The agreement contradicts a sweeping Russia sanctions law Trump signed last month that aimed to restrict oil and gas revenues fueling Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
- Russian aerial bombs struck residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia on Saturday, killing at least 20 people, including three children, one day after the diesel deal announcement.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote that the attacks show Moscow interprets 'any easing of pressure' as permission to continue fighting and that export earnings finance weapons and mercenaries.
- Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson noted energy revenues are 'central to the Russian war chest,' while Trump suggested Ukraine needs a new leader to make a deal.
