Trump admin allows Anthropic to release Mythos AI model to some companies, government agencies: Reports
The revised rules let approved companies and agencies restore access to Claude Mythos 5, while Claude Fable 5 remains blocked for general use.
On Friday, the United States government eased restrictions on Claude Mythos 5, allowing Anthropic to release the model to more than 100 US institutions, including major companies and government agencies.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick issued the decision after Anthropic sent senior cybersecurity teams to Washington to meet with White House officials, following an export control directive issued two weeks ago.
In a letter to Tom Brown on Friday, Lutnick confirmed he had "determined that appropriate safeguards are in place" for trusted partners to regain access to the cybersecurity model.
The White House directive remains silent on the consumer-facing Claude Fable 5, leaving its status uncertain as Anthropic continues working toward broader availability for that model.
Frontier AI developers increasingly require explicit government approval to deploy powerful models, as industry analysts note the administration's stricter oversight reflects a shifting regulatory environment for advanced technology.
After a two-week lock, the US government eases its restrictions on Anthropic. More than 100 selected companies gain access to a powerful AI model again.
