Tropical Depression Forms Over The Central Atlantic
Tropical Depression Seven moves west at 13 mph with a potential northward turn; models indicate no impact on Caribbean islands but possible effects on Bermuda.
- Early Wednesday, Tropical Depression Seven developed in the central Atlantic and is currently tracking westward at approximately 13 mph near coordinates 13.7N latitude and 45.9W longitude.
- The depression formed after an extended period of almost three weeks had passed without any designated storms in the Atlantic region, occurring during the height of hurricane season, which lasts until November 30.
- Satellite observations indicate the system is large with adequate rotation, but its intensification is being hindered by adverse atmospheric conditions, including disruptive winds and dry air, as it progresses west-northwest.
- Winds are currently steady at approximately 35 mph, with a pressure reading of 29.74 inches. The National Hurricane Center anticipates that the system may strengthen to hurricane status by the beginning of next week as it moves safely to the east of the Caribbean islands.
- At present, the depression is not expected to impact Florida or the U.S. East Coast; however, Bermuda should stay alert as the storm may turn northward by the weekend and has the potential to intensify.
