Travis Bright Discusses Why Cross-Trade Knowledge Matters in Residential Construction
Bright says understanding HVAC, wiring and security systems helps managers spot conflicts earlier and reduce miscommunication on home projects.
On Saturday, Greenville, North Carolina-based construction professional Travis Bright discussed how broader technical knowledge helps residential construction professionals make better decisions throughout projects.
Bright's perspective stems from studies at North Carolina State University and East Carolina University, combined with heating and air training at Pitt Community College and professional experience at Pair Electronics.
Framing, HVAC, and wiring often compete for space during construction. "If you understand how the systems connect, it becomes easier to spot problems," Bright said.
While specialists provide deep expertise, construction managers must understand how different trades interact to coordinate effectively. "You don't have to be the person doing every installation," Bright said.
As residential construction increasingly incorporates complex technology, HVAC controls, and security systems, professionals who can connect the dots between trades will become increasingly valuable on jobsites.
