UAE Extends Mars Probe Mission Until 2028
The UAE Space Agency extended the mission due to the probe's healthy status and 10-fold data collection surpassing goals, supporting aerospace growth and research partnerships.
- Yesterday the UAE Space Agency announced at a Dubai press conference that the Emirates Mars Mission will operate through 2028.
- Originally planned as a two-year mission after arriving in Mars orbit in 2021 following a seven-month voyage, the Hope Probe produced 10 terabits of data and released 16 datasets to more than 200 research institutions.
- Scientific teams highlighted discoveries including new observations of Mars' auroral activity and close fly-bys of Deimos, as well as the Hope Probe capturing images of Comet 3I/ATLAS.
- Officials said the extension reflects confidence in the probe's technical readiness and the national team, aiming to boost the UAE space sector through research partnerships and education efforts.
- Looking ahead, the UAE is positioning itself to be one of the 10 biggest players in the space economy by 2031, with the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt in 2028 traveling five billion kilometers and allocating 50% of the budget to the private sector.
