Trains cancelled as serious crash closes road in Perth
Police say the truck failed to clear the crossing and hit a Transperth train, leaving five injured and forcing replacement buses.
On Wednesday, a truck and a train carrying about 100 passengers collided at the Meadow Street railway crossing in Guildford, Perth, injuring five people including two toddlers.
Transporting a bobcat, the truck failed to clear the tracks before the train struck its second trailer, tearing the vehicle in two and scattering debris onto nearby vehicles.
A St John Ambulance spokesperson reported "no life-threatening injuries," though three people required hospitalization while passengers described being "scared" and "shocked" by the impact and high-pitched noise.
Transperth cancelled Midland line services between Bayswater and Midland, causing significant delays while Main Roads urged motorists to avoid the town centre and seek alternate routes.
Disruptions extended across the Airport, Ellenbrook, and Fremantle train lines as emergency crews worked into the evening to remove the wreckage and investigate the collision.
