For years, the number of passenger car kilometres travelled fell in Germany, but now it is rising again for the first time: by three billion kilometres. The individual car is moving less - so there are more vehicles on the road. And by far the majority of them are burners.
The Germans are on the road again more by car. Overall, they travelled as many kilometers as if they were driving about two thousand times to the sun and back again. However, on average, every single car was moved less than in the previous years.

Last year, registered cars in Germany covered a good 594 billion kilometres - three billion kilometres more than in the previous year. It was the first increase since 2018.
In 2024, German roads again had a larger number of passenger cars – previously, traffic had declined for six years. Most of the route was covered by combustion engines.
The so-called national driving power increases for the first time after five successive declines. The individual vehicle is moved less far. Together, it went twice to the sun and back.
