Traders urge Rahul Gandhi to defer INDIA bloc’s Nov 1 rally, say Rs 10,000 crore Diwali business at risk
The Chamber of Trade and Industry urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to postpone the INDIA bloc's November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan, warning it could disrupt business worth ₹10,000 crore during peak festive shopping season.
CTI chairman Brijesh Goyal noted that traders already suffered estimated losses of around ₹3,000 crore in October due to rallies, road closures, and traffic disruptions across central Delhi.
Around 20 wholesale and retail markets, including Chandni Chowk and Sadar Bazar, lie within a five-kilometre radius of the venue, threatening goods distribution and outstation buyer access during the festive period.
The INDIA bloc organized the rally to intensify pressure over the alleged "vote chori" issue and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities.
Postponing the event until after November 10 would help protect trade activity, as Delhi typically records business worth around ₹25,000 crore during the Dhanteras and Diwali festive period.
