Following the Cortina de Fier, when Eisenhöttenstadt, located 120 kilometres south of Berlin, was called Stalinstadt, it was supposed to represent a plan for utopian life in East Germany — a model socialist city built around an ocean. Today, East Germany is no longer an independent country, and residents of the region are following the West in almost every category, including with regard to the hope of life, wealth, employment and population.
