On Sunday, Kimi Antonelli secured victory at the Miami Grand Prix, holding off reigning champion Lando Norris. The win marks his third consecutive victory, making him the first Italian to achieve this since Alberto Ascari in 1952.
Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff warned Antonelli against getting carried away by the Italian public's fervor, comparing his young driver to tennis "superstar" Jannik Sinner. Wolff emphasized the need to contain intense expectations surrounding both athletes.
Addressing Marco Antonelli, Kimi's father and a racing driver himself, Wolff stressed the importance of keeping the driver grounded. Wolff noted that "his parents have done a great job in keeping him grounded" amidst the spotlight.
Managing immense media attention, Wolff stated, "There are so many requests for his time. It's on us to keep the handbrake on that." He cited the lack of Italian football success as driving intense scrutiny.
