Ex-All Black Brown to Join New Zealand From Springboks After World Cup
The New Zealand Rugby Union secured the attack coach 18 months early after his back-to-back Rugby Championship titles lifted his profile.
On Sunday, New Zealand Rugby CEO Steve Lancaster confirmed that Springbok assistant coach Tony Brown will join the All Blacks coaching staff under head coach Dave Rennie in 2028.
New Zealand Rugby Union secured Brown's signature 18 months in advance after his attack transformation led to a record 43-10 victory over the All Blacks in Wellington during dominant 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Although contracted to the Boks until the end of 2027, Brown stated, "Right now, I am fully committed to the Springboks," emphasizing his focus on a third successive Rugby World Cup title.
South African head coach Rassie Erasmus expressed support for the move, stating, "Tony has made a remarkable difference," and noting that early contract clarity enables full preparation focus.
Dave Rennie currently leads the All Blacks with assistants Neil Barnes, Jason Ryan, Tana Umaga, and Mike Blair, whom Brown will replace upon joining in 2028.
