The SPÖ suffered a severe slump in the municipal election in St. Pölten on Sunday and lost the absolute majority after 61 years. According to the provisional final result, the Social Democrats fell to 42.53 percent (2021: 56.02 percent).

The SPÖ should have lost the absolute majority in the municipal election in St. Pölten on Sunday after 61 years. Mayor Matthias Stadler spoke shortly after 19.00 o'clock of a trend that said that there was a head-to-head race between ÖVP and FPÖ. The turnout was still low (2021: 55.96 per cent).
