School Education got Rs 44,527 crore, the largest share, as Tamil Nadu also boosted rural development, health and infrastructure spending.
On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson presented the Revised Budget Estimates for the 2026-27 financial year in the Legislative Assembly, prioritizing education with Rs 44,527 crore for the School Education Department.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj received the second-highest allocation at Rs 39,609 crore, reflecting the government's focus on rural welfare alongside infrastructure development priorities.
Municipal Administration and Water Supply received Rs 29,863 crore, while Health and Family Welfare secured Rs 23,357 crore and the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department obtained Rs 14,984 crore.
Madurai will benefit from a new law college opening in the 2027-28 academic year, while state-wide initiatives include 10 Olympic special training centers and 1,000 mobile geriatric care centers.
Environmental priorities include Rs 53 crore for river tourism development across the Cauvery, Vaigai, and Tamirabharani River basins, with Rs 25 crore dedicated to pollution control feasibility studies.
