We are still far from exhausting everything that can be invented to load an electric vehicle. We would even say that the andor still goes to the adro. And this technology is a good proof of this: it allows to load an electric bus while it follows its route, without cables, without pantographs and without long periods of immobilization. A spin [...]

Winduction is developing a system that transfers energy to an electric bus through its wheels. The vehicle draws power from a charging plate placed in the roadway, with a claimed transfer efficiency exceeding 90%. The first passenger test will take place in 2028.

A prototype electric bus uses its wheels to transfer energy from a charging plate to a battery, without cable. Developed by Winduction, a derivative company at ETH Zurich University, the system loads buses while they stop in stations, reports Interesting Engineering. Swiss startup Winduction charges electric buses wirelessly through their tires at stops, drastically reducing the size of batteries and the operating costs of urban transport.

Switzerland's Windows startup, based on ETH Zurich laboratories, demonstrated a working prototype of a system that charges the electricbus directly through the wheel. No cables, pantographs or stops at the charging station - energy is transmitted by induction through a tyre while the transport is simply standing or moving along a special section of the road.
