Tinubu Pushes ECOWAS to Confront South Africa over Attacks on Nigerians

- Nigeria has already evacuated over 1490 citizens from South Africa in seven batches to protect them from recurring violence, Vice President Kashim Shettima informed African leaders at the 69th Ordinary Session.
- Beyond security concerns, Tinubu reaffirmed support for the newly adopted ECOWAS Compact for the Future of Regional Integration, designed to strengthen regional solidarity and serve over 400 million citizens.
- Nigeria committed to establishing a Counter Terrorism Force and strengthening the ECOWAS Standby Force, while United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed pledged the international body's support for combating terrorism.
- The summit concluded with the signing of the Inter-Governmental Agreement for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project and emphasis on the Digital Single Market to position West Africa competitively in the global digital economy.
