Tinubu approves NIN authentication use across MDAs
- President Bola Tinubu approved the use of the National Identity Management Commission's NIN Authentication platform across all government ministries, departments, and agencies on May 6, 2025, in Abuja.
- This approval followed the Federal Government's launch of NINAuth as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen Nigeria's national identity management system and streamline public service access.
- NINAuth provides multiple channels for identity verification that require users to give explicit permission before sharing their information, enabling access to services such as SIM card registration, passport processing, tax submissions, and renewal of driver's licenses.
- Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, stated that the NINAuth app, which can be accessed via both Android and iOS devices, links users directly to NIMC’s backend system to enable immediate identity verification.
- The platform enhances data security, protects privacy, and empowers users to control data sharing, which fosters trust, transparency, and a more accessible digital identity verification across Nigerian government services.
