Florida Man Tries to Stay in Walmart for 24 Hours in TikTok Challenge, Gets Arrested
Isaac Hurley livestreamed his overnight stay attempt for a TikTok challenge and was arrested for burglary and theft after taking a phone charger, sheriff’s office said.
- Just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, Charlotte County deputies found Isaac Matthew Hurley, 19-year-old man, livestreaming a 24-hour TikTok challenge inside the Walmart on S. McCall Road in Englewood, Florida, locating him in the dog bed section.
- Hurley entered the store around 10:15 p.m. intending to remain overnight to complete the TikTok 24-hour challenge and earn money based on views, investigators say.
- Deputies booked Hurley on burglary of an occupied structure and petit theft after finding he removed an iPhone charger from its packaging inside the store.
- Deputies transported him to the Charlotte County Jail, where he posted a $1,500 bond and was released, and Sheriff Bill Prummell said, `'I'm not sure why people buy into these social media challenges when they are clearly encouraging you to violate the law.'`
- Officials pointed to earlier dangerous online stunts such as the kicking in the front door challenge years ago and warned young people are putting themselves in bad situations and paying the price.
