Met Office Issues Thunderstorm Warning for Nottinghamshire
Forecasters say isolated storms could bring 30mm of rain in an hour, with lightning, hail and gusty winds possible.
The Met Office issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for Oxfordshire on Tuesday, effective from 3pm to 10pm as isolated storms develop across the region.
Following days of intense heat, forecasters warn isolated thunderstorms could develop this afternoon and evening with potential for severe conditions. Storms may bring frequent lightning, large hail, gusty winds and up to 30mm of rainfall in under an hour.
The warning encompasses most of Oxfordshire including Peterborough, Ely, Cambridge and Huntingdon, with the Met Office spokesman advising to seek shelter in enclosed spaces if caught outdoors during thunder.
Heavy rain or lightning strikes pose risk of disruption to transport services, including train and bus delays, while properties face rapid flooding with potential damage from floodwater, lightning and strong winds.
Amber heat alerts for the South East remain in place until 5pm on Thursday May 28 through the UK Health Security Agency, as residents prepare for flash flooding risks and potential power disruptions.
