Thundering On Storms Home to Win Epsom Oaks
Dylan Browne McMonagle earned his first English Classic as the 5/1 filly won by almost four lengths and cut to 10-1 for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
On Friday, jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle guided Thundering On to victory in the Betfred Oaks at Epsom Downs Racecourse, securing trainer Joseph O'Brien his first win in the prestigious race.
Indian owner Shapoor Mistry called the victory a "dream come true" after 45 years involved in racing, with his family having bred the filly's dam and invested in the bloodstock for years.
Thundering On powered clear to win by nearly four lengths ahead of Legacy Link, while 7-4 favorite Amelia Earhart faded to sixth, marking a maiden British Classic success for Browne McMonagle.
Trainer O'Brien, 33, praised the "special filly" and the "fantastic ride," adding he was "so pleased" for the loyal owner after achieving his second British Classic following Galileo Chrome's 2020 St Leger victory.
O'Brien and Browne McMonagle aim to complete a classic double on Saturday with James J Braddock in the Derby, with the trainer noting they have "two live classic chances this weekend.
