- Three Chinese drugmakers, including Beijing Tong Ren Tang group, Tianjin Pharmaceutical group, and Jilin Aodong Pharmaceutical Group, have used parts of endangered animals in their products, prompting the London-based Environmental Investigation Agency to call on global investors to divest their stakes.
- Environmental non-profit organization revealed that 72 firms, including the three drugmakers, have used body parts of threatened leopards and pangolins in traditional Chinese medicine products, which often promote the efficacy of such ingredients. Some investors, like Wells Fargo & Co, have already sold their shares in these companies.
- The environmental group has also urged the Chinese government to ban the use of parts of endangered animals in commercial purposes within domestic markets.
